Ban Chiang Bangkok – Thai Restaurant

views

Ban Chiang is an excellent Thai restaurant that’s located only a few minutes walk from Surasak BTS station. It’s set in a beautiful, old wooden house and is well worth a visit. We’ve eaten there many times, and despite the fantastic food, we rarely see any other Thai people eating there. I had assumed that maybe the food was cooked more for Western palates, but the Thai people I’ve been there with all agree that the food is of a very high standard.

If you want to stay in this area, nearby hotels include Holiday Inn, Eastin Grand Sathorn and Mode Sathorn. All are only a few hundred meters away.

Ban Chiang is open lunchtimes and evenings and is always pretty full, although we’ve always managed to get a table when just turning up. The menu is quite extensive, and even has a separate vegetarian menu that has around 15 dishes.

I’m a big fan of Thai Curry, and so usually get one of their curries to share. Most main dishes are large enough to share, so we usually get a range of dishes to share between us. The Yellow Curry is my current favorite. This goes well with the Deep-Fried Chicken Wrapped In Pandan Leaves, shown above.

One of my wife’s favorite dishes is the Fluffy Catfish With Mango. She often has this dish when we eat here.

As you can see from the photo above, the inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated. There are fresh flowers on every table and also dotted around the restaurant. There is seating both inside and outside. It has aircon, so is very comfortable inside.

The restaurant also has many bowls of flowers such as the ones above. They add a nice touch of color to the old wooden house.

If you’re visiting Bangkok, I would definitely suggesting eating at Ban Chiang.

Prices are very reasonable at around 180 baht ($5) for main dishes. A small bottle of beer is a round 140 baht ($4).
