Korat Hotel, Nakhon Ratchasima

views

For our car journey from Surin to Bangkok, we wanted to spend a night in Nakhon Ratchasima so that we had time to visit some family and friends there. We decided to stay at Korat Hotel in the city center, as it’s an easy walk from there to the Yamo statue that is one of the city’s main attractions. It’s also an area that has a good variety of cafes and restaurants. While Nakhon Ratchasima is the city’s official name, most Thai people know it as Korat, hence the name Korat Hotel.

Korat Hotel has been around for many years but has recently been renovated, so is quite good quality. The hotel is one of the main conference and banqueting hotels in the city and is very well known. The main conference room can hold up to 500 people, so that gives you an idea of what the hotel is like. It’s also the place where many wedding receptions take place in Korat.

Standard Room

We booked a standard room, and that cost us around $35. The price included breakfast, so it was quite good value for money. The room was fairly compact but was fine for us for one night. The bed was comfortable and the aircon worked well.

The room had a fridge that contained a range of drinks. The water was free but the other drinks needed to be paid for. There were also snacks available in the room.

The bathroom was fairly small with a Thai style shower. The shower worked well and there was plenty of hot water. Toiletries were provided.

The hotel also has a full-size professional quality snooker table. I’ve never seen a snooker table at any other hotel I’ve stayed at, so this was a big surprise. It’s possible that they may hold snooker tournaments there, although I’ve never seen any mention of snooker in Thailand.

Breakfast was cooked to order. I think that maybe there is a buffet breakfast at busy times. But the hotel was quite quiet when we were there. There was a choice of American, Thai and Vietnamese breakfast. The American breakfast included a full cooked breakfast, toast, fruit, fruit juice and tea or coffee.

Overall I think this is a pretty good hotel. The location is great, the breakfast is filling and the standard of service was higher than we were expecting.
