Talat Phlu BTS - Cafes, Malls, Markets

Talat Phlu is currently two stops from the end of the BTS Silom Line. The last stop is Bang Wa. It is also connected to Ratchapruek BRT station. Bangkok BRT is a bus rapid transit system that runs from Sathorn to Ratchapruek. We recently had a quick look around the area. There didn’t seem to be too much there, but this is what we found.

Talat Phlu Market

Talat Phlu is best known for it’s market (Talat is the Thai word for market), which is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the BTS station. It has a huge range of food for sale. Above are some Kanom Krok, a rice and coconut dessert. These were the best I have tasted anywhere in Thailand.

Kanom Tan is another popular Thai dessert. It’s made from banana, coconut milk, rice flour, yeast and palm sugar.

It’s not just food that’s on sale, but also clothing, electronics and a whole load of other products.

The Mall, Talat Phlu

If you prefer aircon, there is a shopping mall right across the road from the market. It’s called The Mall, and there are branches of these all around Thailand. It has a Starbucks, as well as many other Western food outlets.

Cafes

If you walk a little further along than The Mall, you’ll come to a nice cafe called No. 16 Love Cafe. Apparently the joint owners are Thai and Korean, and they both have their birthday on the 16th. They built the cafe with love, hence the name – No. 16 Love Cafe. On the 16th of each month they have a buy one get one free offer on their coffee.

Interesting Sights

While walking we came across these gates. I thought they were quite interesting because they didn’t look like typical Thai gates at all. I’m more used to seeing gates like this in the UK. I love the lions on them.

Talat Phlu BTS

Talat Phlu BTS station is next to Ratchadaphisek Road, and also near the BRT’s Ratchapruek station.

This is the view from the bridge over Ratchadaphisek Road. On the left is The Mall, and on the right is Talat Phlu Market. No. 16 Love Cafe is further along the road on the left. The yellow bus in the photo is the BRT. It is arriving from Sathorn station. See Bangkok BRT for more information.
