If you’re looking for a new festival to join the fun at, the KW Oktoberfest celebrations take place Oct. 21-28, 2021, and involve live music and games, hearty German food and beer, and a festive atmosphere. This guide will give you all the details on what’s happening this weekend and throughout the month of October!

What to Expect at Oktoberfest in Kitchener

The excitement for Oktoberfest is mounting, with multiple countries represented at the celebration. There are plenty of ways to enjoy today’s festivities, including drinking around the “bräuhaus”, checking out the live music or spending time admiring all that is happening in one place.

Transport

There are three major bus routes to get you there. The most convenient is the York Region Transit Route 95, which takes up to 2 hours and costs $15 for adult day pass tickets, $5 for children aged 5-17.

Festival Events

The initial weekend of Oktoberfest is the “oompah” part, with polka music and all thing Bavarian. The main event, however, occurs Saturday night and lasts until Monday morning – with nights melding into the next day – so if you’re not a fan of multi-timeline drinking, try staying Saturday night and Sunday morning!

Drinking Games

Everyone loves beer. And Oktoberfest is the perfect time to try new things, especially this drinking game called Schaufeisten. This game gets its name from an old German craft where the participants quickly flip a circle of eggs into their beer. The bowls of eggs are then upended into the beer, causing them to dive under the surface for protection.

Food Trucks and Booths

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest offers a variety of ways to enjoy the celebration at seven locations across Kitchener and Waterloo. These include the Friday Night Traditional German Band Concert at Grotto Bay, featuring live traditional dance and singing at King’s College and The Hub. There’s also a food truck area and biergarten near the weekend activities, as well as a multitude of other public areas with entertainment.

Conclusion

Oktoberfest in Kitchener, Ontario is one of the most popular annual traditions for residents and tourists. This annual festival has been taking place since 1981 and includes food, music and fun. It also features a parade that attracts thousands of people every year.
