Whenever we’re traveling we love to look out for unusual things, as it’s something that makes traveling more interesting. While Hua Hin is a fairly small city it still has its fair share of the unusual. This is what we’ve come across so far.

Rooster On The Loose

For some reason, we’ve seen lots of roosters around Hua Hin, but the one in the photo above was a little different because it was wandering around the city center right next to the café we were eating at. I walked right up to it so that I could take a photo and it actually starting walking towards me to get closer. It didn’t seem to be frightened of people at all. We found out that it lived down a lane near the café but likes to go wandering around.

A Thai Clock

I lived in Thailand on and off for almost 10 years and this is the only Thai clock I’ve ever seen. Not many people even realize that there are Thai symbols for numbers.

Condom Machine

We saw this condom machine at a local petrol station. I love the way they use an eggplant to demonstrate how thin the condom is. Marketing at it’s best.

The Rooster Roundabout

I already mentioned that we’d seen a few roosters around Hua Hin, but the area just beyond this roundabout is also named after chickens. The area is called Bon Kai. Gai is the Thai word for chicken, while kai means egg. The Thai spelling says something about gambling chickens or chicken casino, so the English version has been slightly misspelled, which happens quite often. I assume this is something to do with rooster fighting and gambling, although we haven’t managed to find out for sure.

Man With Heart Balloon

There is lots of graffiti all around Hua Hin, with one of the main themes being a man holding a heart-shaped balloon. We have seen these in a wide range of places.

Horses Crossing The Road

We often see traffic on the main Phetkasem Road stopping to let horses cross. This one crossed in front of us today. They are heading for the beach where many of the horses are used by the volunteer beach patrols.
