The Beach Cha Am Guesthouse

As we plan to spend some time in Hua Hin, we decided that it would be a good idea to stop for a couple of nights in Cha Am, which is a small beach town further north. Cha Am. Cha Am used to be a small village but has been growing very quickly over recent years and looks like it will continue to do so. I’ve read mixed reviews about the town so wanted to check it out myself to see what it’s really like.

So for our first night, we decided to stay at The Beach Cha Am Guesthouse, as it’s right in the center of town near the beach and also had great reviews on hotel booking websites. However, we were a little disappointed when we arrived, as we realized it’s on a street where many beer bars are located. If we’d know this we wouldn’t have booked it, but if beer bars are your thing you might love this location.

The room was a good side with a fairly simple layout and large windows that faced out on the street. There was also a balcony with a table and two chairs from where you could catch a small glimpse of the sea. The best part about the balcony was that there was a nice breeze coming off the sea, so it was a pleasant place to sit.

The bathroom was Thai style, meaning once you’ve used the shower the whole bathroom floor is wet. This can be really annoying but is pretty standard in most Thai guesthouses and small hotels.

There was a safety deposit box in the room which was handy, This is something you don’t often get in guesthouses.

One issue for us was parking, There is enough space outside the hotel to park 2 cars and a few motorbikes but these were full when we arrived, so we had to park at another hotel about 100 meters away. Not a really big deal, but it would have been nice to have more parking. Most guests seem to arrive by train though, so parking wouldn’t be an issue for them.

Breakfast was available on the ground floor with prices ranging from 99 baht ($3.20) for Continental Breakfast to 229 baht ($7.40) for a Full Brunch Breakfast.

We stayed at the hotel on a Monday night so were told that most of the bars would be quite quiet, but we could still hear music up until around midnight. I guess this was worse for us because we were at the front of the hotel. Weekends are pretty busy so I guess the music would be much louder. If you plan to stay out late it might not affect you, but this isn’t a hotel for someone that likes peace and quiet. If you want to be near the beer bars and arty then this could be a good option for you.
