Surasak BTS – Restaurants, Cafes, Bars, Shopping, Attractions, Hotels

The area around Surasak BTS station is pretty interesting, with numerous hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, and shopping. There is also an amazing Hindu temple, lots of street food, the Bangkok Seashell Museum, and much more. Click here for a range of hotels near Surasak BTS station.

Restaurants

This area boasts quite a few excellent restaurants, as well as many smaller shophouse-style eateries. We’ve only covered a few here, but you can find lots of others if you walk around the area, including many Indian and Italian restaurants.

Blue Elephant Restaurant

The Blue Elephant Restaurant is pretty famous for its Royal Thai cuisine, and also has one of the most popular Thai cooking classes. It’s right next to Surasak BTS station. That’s Eastin Grand Sathorn Hotel on the left.

Ban Chiang

Ban Chiang on Soi Sri-Vieng is located an in a beautiful, old wooden house, and is mostly frequented by tourists and expats. It’s very rarely we see any Thai people eating here, but the food is excellent.

Baan Somtum

Baan Somtum, also on So Sri-Vieng, is packed every night of the week, often with people queuing outside. In contrast to Ban Chiang, this restaurant has almost exclusively Thai diners.

Bussaracum

Yet another restaurant on Soi Sri-Vieng, Bussaracum specializes in Royal Thai cuisine. It’s a popular place for wedding receptions, with much of the activity taking place outside.

Thanying

Thanying is located just around the corner on Soi Pramuan. This is one of Bangkok’s best restaurants for Royal Thai cuisine.

Kalparuek

Kalparuek is popular with locals and is a bit of a hidden gem. We often see food tours stopping here. It’s only open during the daytime, so you’ll have to look elsewhere for your evening meal. I’ve shown the photo above so that it’s easy for you to find.

But the real local secret is this beautiful dining area in the huge garden at the back. There is a car park to the right of the building, so just walk into that and you’ll see the garden.

Nadimos

Nadimos is one of Bangkok’s best Lebanese restaurants, and this is somewhere we eat regularly.

This area has so many restaurants that’s it’s a good idea to just take a walk around the area to see what’s available.

Cafes

If it’s coffee you’re after, the area around Surasak BTS is a good place to be. There is Rocket X Pop-Up Cafe, Bevanda, Pearl Bakery & Cafe, Hatta Zakka, The Coffee Club, Churn, Nob, Ring Cafe, Krung Teh, Chao Doi and Luka. Bars

This area doesn’t really have many bars, as there is a huge entertainment area about 1 km away neat Sala Daeng BTS. It does have a couple of worth a mention though.

Whisgars Whisky and Cigar Bar

This is a pretty new bar on the ground floor for Holiday Inn Silom. As the name suggests, the main attractions are whiskey and cigars. It’s connected to -13 Ice Bar, which is an ice cold bar that sells vodka.

Nineteens Up Bar

This is a new bar that opened recently. The name, Nineteens Up comes from the fact that 19 is the last year as a teenager. It attracts a young after work crowd and is described as a playground for every lifestyle. It has pool tables and a number of games. It sells food and drink, as well as coffee.

Nineteens Up is located in the Baan Silom complex. You’ll find lots of other restaurants here, including Nadimos (mentioned above), a sushi restaurant, plus Indian (vegetarian), Turkish and Thai restaurants. There are also four cafes – Nob, Ring Cafe, Krung Teh and Starbucks

Shopping

Bangkok Fashion Outlet

Fashion outlet is located in the Jewelry Trade Center, which is one of Bangkok’s tallest buildings. There is a range of outlet shops for both men and women.

Jewelry Trade Center

Jewelry Trade Center is Asia’s biggest mall for gemstones and other jewelry. People come from all around the world to buy gemstones from here.

Silom Road

Silom Road has a range of stores including those that sell jewelry, suits, antiques, souvenirs, and art. There are some street stalls that set up in the evening as well. There are also many massage shops and convenience stores.

Attractions

Mariamman Hindu Temple

This is probably Thailand’s most important Hindu temple, and many people come here to pray every day. It’s located at the junction of Silom Road and Pan Road, where you will see very colorful garlands for sale.

Bangkok Seashell Museum

If you’re traveling with children, you might want to check out the Bangkok Seashell Museum. It does strike me as a little odd to have a seashell museum in a city like Bangkok.

Hospitals

Saint Louis Hospital

If you need to see a doctor while in this area, there is a very good international hospital on Sathorn Road, just a few minutes walk from Surasak BTS. I’ve used this hospital myself when I recently had rabies and tetanus vaccines. It’s very reasonably priced as well.

Hotels

Mode Sathorn

Mode Sathorn is a fairly new hotel that’s right next t Surasak BTS station. The Coffee Club, an Australian coffee chain store, recently opened on the ground floor. The hotel has an excellent rooftop bar and swimming pool. Click here to book a room at Mode Sathorn.

Eastin Grand Sathorn

Eastin Grand Sathorn is right next to Surasak BTS and even has a walkway from that goes straight into the hotel, which you can see on the left-hand side of the image above. On the right, you can see the famous Blue Elephant Restaurant, which is mention above. This is a great choice if you plan to get around the city by BTS. Holiday Inn

Holiday Inn doesn’t need much introduction, as it’s a very popular worldwide hotel chain. This hotel in Silom has a swimming pool and fitness center and is only a 5-minute walk from Surasak BTS station. Click here to book a room at Holiday Inn Silom.

On the right-hand side of the above image, you can see lebua at State Tower. This has one of the best rooftop bars in Bangkok, with views looking out over the magnificent Chao Phraya River. Parts of the film Hangover 2 were filmed at lebua.

iCheck Inn

This a small boutique hotel about 5 minutes walk from Surasak BTS. It’s on a small lane off Silom Road, so is very central but also very quiet. We’ve stayed here a few times over the years. Prices are very reasonable. Click here to book a room at iCheck Inn Silom.
