Strange & Weird Sights We’ve Seen In Thailand

views

We’ve seen so many strange and weird sights around Thailand that I’ve decided to start documenting them, so I have something to look back on in years to come. What are the strangest sights you’ve seen in Thailand? Leave a comment below.

Fish Shoes

These are the strangest shoes that I’ve ever seen. We saw these for sale in Bangkok’s Silom district. Thais certainly have a sense of humor. It turns out that these shoes are also available on Amazon. Click below to check them out.

A Taxi With Curtains

Don’t you just love those curtains? The taxi driver told us that he made them himself, as a way to brighten his car up, as well as protecting his passengers from the sun.

Free Haircuts On A Train Station Platform

I’m not sure if the free haircuts are available every day, but we see this scene quite often. Apparently, they are trainee hairdressers that need people to practice on. Seems quite odd that they should do this on a train station platform. But it always amuses me.

The Archer

This archer has been on the roof of a building next to Phloen Chit BTS station for many years. Almost everyone is aware of it, but no-one seems to know what it’s doing there.

Men Climbing Cables

If you spend some time in Bangkok, you’ll likely see plenty of workmen climbing onto the cables strewn all around the city. But the most daring on we saw was this one above.

This man walked all over this mass of cables while the traffic rushed by. I’m surprised more people don’t get killed doing this kind of job.

Bang Sue

This station name always brings a smile to my face. Bangkok’s main railway station will be moving here in 2019.

A Buddha Taxi

I’ve actually seen a few taxis like this one. The more Buddha images, the safer your journey will be. It’s things like this that make Thailand such an interesting place to visit.

A Psychedelic Taxi

Lots of Bangkok taxi drivers like to make their taxis unique in some way. This taxi had a psychedelic ceiling. It looks pretty cool and much better than the usual boring beige color.

Another Taxi With A Colorful Ceiling

The taxi drivers of Bangkok seem to love pimping their taxis. I wonder what our next taxi will look like.

Toothbrushes In A Plant Pot

I’ve no idea why there were toothbrushes in this plant pot. It’s the type of weird thing you see around Thailand. This was in Bangkok.

Tree Devours A Chair

We’ve walked past this chair many times. It looks like someone installed it so they could sit and relax outside their house, but now it’s been taken over by the tree next to it.

A Boat-Shaped Hedge

This is another one from the Bangrak district, which has some pretty weird things all around. This one is pretty cool, as it’s a hedge cut into the shape of an intricate boat. Many years ago there used to be a canal running down Silom Road, so the boat is there as a reminder of the past.

Ice On The Pavement

In such a hot city, ice is essential. But despite the heat, bags of ice just get left on the pavement. A vendor turns up a little later to make iced drinks.

Wooden Parrots

This wooden parrot was hanging from this tree for many months. We have no idea whether it was put there deliberately or whether someone just forgot it or lost it. After a few months, it disappeared. But parrots appear to be “a thing” in Bangkok. Here’s another one.

Mask On A Tree

Thai people seem to like decorating trees near their homes and offices. As well as some plants, this one also has a white mask.

Recycled Tyres

We were quite amused when we saw what they had done with these old tires. They’ve been made into a cute display for the Bangrak district of Bangkok.

Weird Doll On A Tuk Tuk

What’s this all about then? We saw this tuk tuk with a weird looking doll stuck to the back. Maybe to ward away evil spirits?

Chicken Karaoke

What’s this, a singing chicken?

Ladyboys Fountain

Ladyboys are everywhere in Thailand. These two were in Hat Yai.

Pretty Phone Numbers

This is the first time I’ve heard phone numbers described as being pretty. Out of the three sold, two ends in 666.

Red Indian Headdress Lorry Cab

Most lorries you see driving around Thailand have very colorful cabs. The one above has a Red Indian headdress painted onto the side of the cab.

Keep Fit – Take The Escalator

This sign is obviously advertising the fitness center, but it’s quite amusing that it is placed on the escalator.

St John The Baptist – Or Is It?

This one is so funny. Can you spot the spelling mistake?
