Enjoy a Worry-Free Vacation with These Helpful Home Security Tips

So you’re finally on your way to that much-needed and well-earned break from work. You’ve got all your travel documents secured, booked your accommodations and tours, and even outlined your Outfit of the Day choices for the trip.

All that’s left to do is secure your home. Most people don’t think much about this, especially if they live in a lovely apartment complex with good amenities. While that may be the case, you still shouldn’t just leave the matter of security in their hands. Here are some things you can do to secure your place better while away traveling.

Clean Up

It might be tempting to sweep things under the rug since you won’t be there to deal with it for a while, anyway. That’s the thing, though. When you get back, the things you swept under the rug will still be there, which will only make the process of reacclimating to the daily grind more challenging.

So throw away your trash, wash your sheets, vacuum the carpet and sweep the floor, wash the dishes and stow them away before you head out. You’ll be thanking yourself once you get back from your trip to a tidy home.

Have a Trusted Friend Check In

Worried that your plant babies won’t get enough water and sunlight? Afraid that your place will attract suspicious people because of lack of activity? Have a trusted friend check in on your place on random days while you’re out. That way, it’s not going to look like it’s empty and free for the taking, so to speak.

Invest in a Security System

In case there’s nobody available to check in on your place, the next best thing is to install a security system. Technology today does not only allow you to set up alarm triggers in case of an intrusion, but it can also connect you automatically to the authorities for immediate response.

Plenty of security system models today also allow you to access the controls in your homes remotely. This means that you don’t have to lose sleep constantly thinking about whether or not you locked the garage door. Just check the app on your mobile device to confirm, and then take the appropriate action as needed, in case you did miss out on something.

Keep Your Plans Private

Last but not least, don’t overshare on social media. While you’re excited and proud to be going on your vacation, some people might be excited about your trip for all the wrong reasons. Don’t allow them to make an easy target out of you.

Do not announce anything specific about your trip–in fact, try not to mention that you will be away at all. The details you share online can also be the key to your home, so be careful what you divulge.
