I recently visited London for a couple of weeks, so needed a local SIM card so that I could call family and friends, and also for using the internet. After much research I found the perfect SIM card at a great price. So, what’s the best London SIM card for tourists?

The SIM card I chose came from UK operator “Three”. They have plenty of stores around London, so it’s easy to find one near to your hotel. I used the store in Queensway, near Bayswater and Queensway underground stations. There are lots of mobile phone stores on that street, but Three had the best deals.

I paid £10 for a SIM card that had 3,000 texts and minutes and 1GB of data. The card lasted for 30 days.

You can also get a free SIM card if you prefer to pay for texts, calls and data. This may suit you if you’re not likely to use your phone very often while there. You can see the table above for the various options.

The SIM cards can be bought online, and I think the can be posted outside the UK. But they are easy enough to get in London.

If you are in London already, to find a store near your hotel, just head to three.co.uk/Support/Store_locator and enter the postcode of your hotel. You’ll then be shown a list of stores nearest to you.

The SIM can be set up in the store and only takes a few minutes to get up and running.
