B.B. King’s Blues Club Owner
The first B.B. King’s Blues Club was opened in 1991 by Riley B. King or more popularly known as B.B. King. He wasa popular American blues singer, electric guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. He was born on a cotton plantation in IttaBena, Mississippi and later worked at a cotton gin in Indianola, Mississippi. B.B. King was attracted to music and the guitar in church and began his career in juke joints and local radio.
B.B. King later lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and Chicago and he toured the world extensively. He introduced a classy style of soloing based on fluid string bending and gleaming vibrato that swayed many later electric blues guitarists.
In 1987, B.B. King was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is considered as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time where he earned the nickname, “The King of the Blues”. He was also considered one of the “Three Kings of the Blues Guitar”. B.B. King was also known for his tireless performance throughout his musical career. In fact, he appeared on average at more than 200 concerts per year into his 70s.
In 2014, his remaining eight shows were canceled because of health problems that were caused by complications from diabetes and high blood pressure. On May 14, 2015, he died in his sleep at the age of 89 from vascular dementia caused by a series of small strokes as a consequence of his type 2 diabetes.
