Bangkok Local Markets – Bangkok Bazaar

views

Bangkok Bazaar is an evening market that’s open every day from around 5 pm onwards. It’s located right next to Robinson’s department store on Charoen Krung Road, just a 1-2 minute walk from Saphan Taksin BTS (Skytrain) station.

With most local markets in Bangkok it’s quite rare to see foreigners shopping there, but at Bangrak Bazaar you’ll see quite a few. This is due to the fact that it’s close to a popular BTS station and also has many hostels and hotels in the area. In fact, the market is right outside the 5-star Shangri La Hotel (add your affiliate link here).

The main section of the market is located along Charoenkrung Soi 50, but market stalls are also spread along both sides of the main Charoengrung Road. It’s like an unofficial extension of the market. As you enter the market you’ll see the familiar yellow stalls. This is mostly where you’ll find clothing and fashion accessories.

About halfway along the yellow stalls, you’ll see an entrance into the main building. This is where the covered part of the market is. In here you’ll find pet supplies, a tattoo artist, watches and clothes. There is also a section called Bangrak Beauty that is dedicated to hair and nail salons. This is where many local Thai women head to.

At the furthest end of the indoor section, you’ll see a huge food court that has a selection of around 20 different food stalls along one side. This gets very full from around 6 pm onwards. This area also has a couple of coffee shops, and a beer bar in the corner.

Walk outside the food court area and you’ll come to the outside section at the back that faces Shangri La Hotel. These are a few food truck style eateries here along with some more trendy seating. This area is always full. Walk to the end and you’ll find yourself back on Soi 50.

Across the road, there are three restaurants and bars that cater to tourists. Prices are higher than at the market and it’s somewhere that you rarely see Thais eating.

I always find it a little strange that so many tourists come to Thailand but just don’t want to mix at all with the locals. Rather than eat with the locals they try to find a place full of other tourists. I would suggest hanging out with the locals, as they are generally very friendly and many of them like the chance to practice their English

The prices at this market are pretty cheap, so it’s a good place to head to if you’re on a tighter budget.
