15 Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurants In Silom, Bangkok

views

The Silom district of Bangkok is a great place for both vegetarians and vegans. There are numerous restaurants in this area, with Pan Road a being a particularly good place to visit. Here are all the vegetarian and vegan places we’ve managed to find. There are a total of 16.

House of Joy (Vegetarian)

House of Joy only opened in May 2017 but is proving to be quite popular. It’s a brand new building that includes a vegetarian restaurant, a yoga studio, massage rooms, and a co-working space.

The main menu has details of three special meal for each day, two salads and a range of starters. There is a separate menu that has about 20 dishes, but this menu is only available in Thai. The staff speaks English, so I’m not sure why this hasn’t also been translated into English.

There is seating both inside and out. The Avocado Salad cost 199 baht, the Veggie Spring Rolls 60 baht and the Hainanese Tofu Rice 60 baht. So 319 baht ($9) in total. Most dishes appear to vegan.

Suananda Vegetarian Garden Cafe (Vegetarian)

Suananda is set in a very peaceful garden away from the road where you can almost forget that you’re in the center of a big, bustling and chaotic city. As well as plenty of outside seating, they also have two separate indoor areas with aircon.

There is a wide choice of international dishes to choose from, including Thai, Indian, Japanese, Burmese and Lebanese. We opted for two of the set meals, Thanon Pan (named after the road that the cafe is on) and Soma Samadhi. The Thanon Pan included Green Curry, Tofu Fritters, Gotu Kola Salad, Organic Red Rice and Parantha. The Soma Samadhi included Buckwheat Noodles, Teriyaki Tofu, and Spicy Miso Mushroom Soup. Both were vegan and cost 265 baht ($7.50) each. Both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented.

Vegan and gluten-free items are clearly marked on the menu.

Above you can see the entrance to Suananda. The cafe is at the end of the lane. Chennai Kitchen (mentioned below) is just out of shot to the right in the above image.

Chennai Kitchen (Vegetarian)

Chennai Kitchen serves South Indian style food and is a great place to have a tasty lunch or evening meal. It’s almost next door to Suananda, mentioned above. We’ve only eaten here a few times, but the food has always been good.

This vegan food cart is at the Hindu Temple end of Pan Road. Turn into Pan Road from Silom Road and you’ll see it on your right just at the end of the first set of shops.

This stall usually has 4-6 hot dishes that you can order with rice, and also a range of noodle dishes. The noodle dish above cost 40 baht ($1.15).

Ama Vegan Cafe (Vegan) *** CLOSED DOWN ***

*** This is used to be one of our favorite lunchtime places to eat, but it has now closed down and moved to Sinsakhon Village in Samut Sakhon, which is around 35 km away. ***

Bonita Cafe & Social Club (Vegan)

The cafe recently moved from Pan Road, where it had been based for a few years. I at that location but haven’t been to the new location yet. The food here is very good and all of it is vegan. My favorite was the vegan breakfast, which included vegan sausage and bacon. Yummy.

Tien Sin Soi Si Wiang (Vegan)

Tien Sin is a typical vegan shophouse cafe where the food is pre-cooked. They usually have a choice of around 10 hot dishes, plus a selection of fake meats. Noodles are also available to order separately. The two dishes above came to a total of 95 baht ($2.75). It is better to go earlier in the day, as the food tends to run out later in the day and there will be much less choice.

We recently saw a sign saying this would also be open Mon-Fri 16:00-19:00 with a smaller selection of dishes.

Tien Sin Details

Address: Soi Si Wiang, Silom (near the junction with Charoenkrung Road)

Nearest BTS: Saphan Taksin

Opening Hours: Mon-Fri 07:00-15:00; Sat 07:00-12:00

Tien Sin Soi Pipat 2 (Vegan) (MOVED TO SOI PRADU) – See Tien Sin Soi Pradu

This place is kind of a mixture of shophouse and street food style eating. They have around 10 hot dishes to choose from, plus noodles and fake meats. There is seating inside and outside, with a big tree offering plenty of shade.

This place is very hidden but fairly easy to find once you have directions. Soi Pipat 2 is a mostly one-way street that connects Soi Narathiwas, Soi Pipat with Soi Convent. Tien Sin is located on the section between Soi Pipat and Soi Convent. If walking from the Soi Pipat side, it’s down the first small lane on your left, and opposite Silom Forest serviced apartments. When it’s closed you won’t see anything, so you wouldn’t know it was there unless you passed when it was open. Popular with local office workers.

The two meals above cost 80 baht ($2.30).

Sopa (Vegetarian) *** CLOSED DOWN ***

*** According to their facebook page, this is now closed down. ***

We found this place while out walking one day, so we stopped and had a Coconut Smoothie. We’d already eaten, so didn’t have any food there, but they had lots that we liked on the menu, including Massaman Curry and Penang Curry.

This is quite a small place but is worth trying if you’re in the area. Main dishes were priced around 80-120 baht. The smoothie was 70 baht. They also do Thai vegetarian cooking classes for 1,000 baht per person.

Sopa Details

Address: 1086/20 Charoenkrung Road (between Soi 30 & 32)

Saravanaa Bhavan (Vegetarian)

Saravanaa Bhavan is part of an international chain of restaurants that specializes in South Indian cuisine. I have never eaten here, so I have no idea what it is like. I haven’t seen any reviews about it either. If you like South Indian food, then it is worth giving it a try. It’s upstairs from the large Starbucks at Baan Silom. The entrance is on Silom Soi 19.

Saravanaa Bhavan Details

Address: Baan Silom, Silom Soi 19 (above Starbucks)

Nearest BTS: Surasak

Opening Hours: 08:00-22:30

Taste of Mumbai Haji Ali (Vegetarian)

This is another place that I’ve never eaten at. It seems to be an Indian fast food place, so not really my type of place. It does get a good review on Happy Cow though. They offer crepes, faloodas, and chaats, although I have no idea what they are. They also have a juice bar and vegan-friendly dishes.

Taste of Mumbai Haji Ali Details

Address: Baan Silom, Silom Soi 19 (behind Starbucks)

Nearest BTS: Surasak

Opening Hours: 10:00-22:30

Family Plaza Food Court (Vegan)

This vegan stall is in the Family Plaza food court area and is very popular with local office workers at lunchtime.

The food court is behind the Family Mart that is opposite the Holiday Inn Silom hotel. Don’t confuse it with the other Family Mart that’s on the ground floor of the Holiday Inn. As you can see above, this is a typical Thai food court, with the food shops around the edge with lots of central seating. The above photo was taken at around 11:45. 20 minutes later it was very full. The above meal was 40 baht (just over $1).

The vegan stall is clearly marked, so you won’t miss it.

Family Plaza Food Court Details

Address: 981 Silom Road (Behind the Family Mart that is between Silom Soi 30 and Mahesak Road)

Nearest BTS: Surasak

Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 11:30-late afternoon (mostly a lunchtime place)

Silom Soi 10 Food Court (Vegan) – Two Places

Walk down the short Silom Soi 10 lane and you’ll see a huge market at the back. Lunchtimes are bedlam, with hundreds of office workers arriving to eat there. You can also enter the market from Naratiwas Soi 1 if you’re coming from the Surawong Road side.

The vegan stall is easy to spot because of all the yellow flags hanging in front of it. Food is very tasty and good quality for a food court.

We later discovered a second vegan stall.

Above is the second vegan places we discovered in this food court. It’s in the next lane along. If you stand facing the first one, this one will be behind you and to the right.

Silom Soi 10 Food Court Details (Two Vegan Stalls)

Address: Market at Silom Road Soi 10

Nearest BTS: Chong Nonsi

Opening Hours: Mon-Fri 09:00-16:00 (most choice at lunchtime)

Diamond Restaurant (Vegetarian)

This is an Indian vegetarian restaurant that is on the ground floor of a Diamond Residence Hotel. I ate here once many years ago, and while the food was fine, it seemed a bit expensive compared to other restaurants in the area.

Diamond Restaurant Details

Address: 703-705 Silom Road (opposite Narai Hotel)

Nearest BTS: Chong Nonsi & Surasak (both a 10-15 minute walk)

Opening Hours: All day
